When interviewing prospective home builders and general contractors there are many questions that can be asked, including 10 important questions:
1. Are you financially responsible?
Moline Builders Response: Yes, Moline Builders has a long history of financial responsibility. Our suppliers and sub-contractors are paid on time so that your construction project stays on schedule, without disruption.
2. Who will manage my construction project?
Moline Builders Response: Each project is personally managed by Jim Moline, President. Unlike some competitors we do not have employee or contracted job site managers. As a principle in Moline Builders, Mr. Moline has a vested interest in the success of the company and a sincere interest in ensuring that your project is a success and you are completely satisfied.
3. Do you design the homes?
Moline Builders Response: Jim Moline, President, is involved in the design process, just as he is the building process. However, your home will be designed by highly qualified designers and architects who will create a floor plan and a set of construction drawings, allowing our staff to focus on building your home ... which is what we do best.
4. Are you a "Certified" Energy Star builder?
Moline Builders Response: Yes, as a "Certified" Energy Star Builder ALL of our homes are built to rigorous Energy Star Version 3 standards and tested to establish a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) score. We welcome you to compare our HERS scores to our competition.
We feel that the HERS tests are important. First: it confirms that the home is as energy efficient as possible. Second: the HERS test quantifies the Energy Efficiency, setting the stage for continuous improvement on our part. How can a builder know if they are improving if they don't know where they started?
5. How do I know what quality level my home will be built to?
Moline Builders Response: Moline Builders has assembled an elite team of craftsmen that build all of our homes regardless of the price. Unlike some competitors, we do not select our craftsmen based on the sale price of the home. When you tour a Moline Built home you are viewing our one and only quality level.
6. How am I guided through the building process and decisions that need to be made?
Moline Builders Response: You will be supported by a team of professionals throughout the process, including Jim Moline, who is a framer by trade and has been building homes for almost 30 years. It will be your home, but Jim Moline will give you his honest opinion throughout and let you know if you are making a decision whose consequences may not be apparent to you. In addition, our staff designer is an integral part of the process.
7. Are you a member of the Home Builders Association?
Moline Builders Response: Yes, as a member of the Home Builders Association we take integrity and consumer protection seriously. The HBA Code of Ethics promotes and maintains the highest standard of service and personal conduct that not only applies to individuals taking the pledge, but also to any company with which we conduct business in the home building industry.
8. Do You have a documented design and decorating process so that I know what to expect?
Moline Builders Response: At the beginning of the project you will be provided a copy of "The Moline Builders Construction Design Guide". This publication provides a road map of the design and decorating journey you will take with us.
9. Do you provide decorating services or am I left to fend for myself?
